about

Unlike the two songs it follows, Hit Me begins and ends with a single guitar playing through stacked fuzz pedals. Yet, it lacks the drums and bass guitar the other songs contain, making it both the heaviest and the most stripped-back song on the EP.

Combining a dirty guitar tone, repetitive lyrics, and slightly detuned solo, Hit Me is the seconds just before a breakup. The true colors have been revealed, and it's time to go.

The song ends with a distorted sample of a voicemail from my dad, making him the first person (other than myself, of course) to appear in one of my songs. After I had overslept for class during my first semester of college, he left me the voicemail in hopes of waking me up, ending it with "give your mom a call. Bye." So if you're reading this, call someone you love and tell them you love them. And wake up on time tomorrow!

lyrics

I'm not trying to fight you
I'm just trying to find you
I'm not so sure you're insecure
Tell me what you're fighting for

I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know

I'm not trying to fight you
I'm just trying to like you
All your friends call me a bore
Tell me what you're fighting for

I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know

I'm not trying to fight you
I'm not trying to fight you
I'm not trying to fight you
I'm not trying to fight you

(Give your mom a call. Bye.)
